Introducing The Expat's Guide to Southern Alsace

After months of research and interviews with local experts, Susie Woodhams and I completed a guide about dining, shopping, and recreation in southern Alsace.  The project took every minute of my day for the past six months, and my laptop became my new best companion. In the end, what I learned from this project is incredible.  To now be able to share my knowledge about this area of Alsace with others is a truly rewarding experience.

Today, I am back on the blogosphere, excited and overjoyed to announce the release of The Expat's Guide to Southern Alsace.  It is now available for direct purchase and download from Amazon.com.

Why write about southern Alsace?  Well, if you travel into the region’s southern-most towns, there’s very little English literature to guide you - That's why we wrote this book.

We share insider tips for shopping, dining and recreation spots in nearby Alsace, which differs from Switzerland and neighboring Germany. Even if you’re only planning a vacation to this part of Europe, our book will serve as a valuable aid.

Read our history section to understand why the border area varies from the rest of the Alsace region. If you’re curious about Alsatian wine, we explain the region’s seven major varietals and share our Question and Answer session with three local sommeliers. For those wanting to sample French cheeses, we detail their origins, recommend cheese pairings and describe more than half of the elite Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) labeled varieties – including Alsace’s Munster.

This guide also tackles more practical issues, such as the quality of food at French groceries, as well as organic and rigorously monitored farm-raised products. We also share addresses to get the freshest meats, poultry, and produce in the southern towns. Our restaurant guide offers summaries of local French and Alsatian restaurants, typical menu items, their pronunciations, and English translations. We also have a thorough glossary in the Appendix covering everything from food to spa terms, and information on filing for a Value-Added Tax (VAT) refund.

For more information about our book, you can contact us through our website, http://www.xpatsguide.com, and follow us on Facebook at Expat’s Guide to Southern Alsace, to get updates on events in the area.
